Jason Zebehazy. The Autodesk Inventor iFeature. I've described it as Inventor's version of an AutoCAD Block. When there's a repetitive feature that needs to be placed multiple times with repeatability, this is a place to look. First, Autodesk Inventor has several iFeatures that ship with it.
Autodesk Inventor’s iFeatures are a handy time saving tool, that allow you to save a feature (or a set of features – even a whole part) out to a separate file so that you can re-use it later. iFeatures can be fully Parametric with both size and position driven by Parameters. Like all Inventor features, they are History based and will require some existing features to be placed on ( this could be a work plane, it doesn’t have to be a solid unless the iFeature is a ‘Cut’ extrusion).
Discover how to add simple parameters to your models, reuse data with iFeatures, streamline assembly creation with iMates, create variations on parts with differing sizes and materials with iParts, and build dynamic assembly configurations with iAssemblies. …In this portion of the course, we'll be…looking at how to create configurable iParts and iFeatures.…IParts and iFeatures can speed the design process by allowing…you to create a single part that represents many different…variations or by creating an iFeature that includes a group…of features you may find yourself creating over and over again.…On the screen, you can see a simple Learn how to use the power of Inventor to build logic and iterations into your 3D designs. Discover how to add simple parameters to your models, reuse data with iFeatures, streamline assembly creation with iMates, create variations on parts with differing sizes and materials with iParts, and build dynamic assembly configurations with iAssemblies. Join John Helfen for an in-depth discussion in this video, Extracting iFeatures for use in other parts, part of Inventor 2014 Essential Training. Video created by Autodesk for the course "Autodesk Certified Professional: Inventor for Mechanical Design Exam Prep".

Give size restrictions. Provide instructions or explanation for placement or positioning. Add Placement Help to the iFeatures. The help is available when you place or edit the iFeatures.

Include all necessary parameters in the iPart or iFeature before converting it to a table-driven iFeature. You cannot add parameters to a table-driven iFeature that were not present in the original iFeature. iFeature of Inventor can be seen as a file which contains a sequence of features (Extrude, Hole, Fillet etc.), comparable with batch file for OS commands.

Avoid using the default origin work planes, axes, or center point for work features. To Work with iFeatures. Create an iFeature from an iPart or from a set of features and specify the geometry that is used to position it on a part. You can edit iFeature files, placed iFeatures, and iFeature sketches.

Autodesk Inventor has a set of intelligent tools intended to make it easier to iterate and automate product design. These features allow users to quickly develop new variations of a design Now, in order to open up our iFeature and make it…a table driven iFeature…we need to go to our open menu…and click on the inventor electrical library link.…Go up one level, go into inventor 2019…into the catalog and that's where you'll be able to…access these IDE files which represents the iFeatures…that we've created earlier.…So go ahead and click open and now you can see At long last! The final part of my little "iFeatures & Autodesk Inventor" series (at least for now)! In this final post, I'll discuss taking and iFeature, and driving it via a table. But first of all, why drive an iFeature with a table?

I haven't done too many metric iFeatures (being from the states), but I don't recall every having my units jump. I'm going to be using Inventor 2013 with metric iFeatures for KETIV's AMA event, so I'll keep an eye out to see if it crops up.
